Naoko Ogawa's project "Jewelry Hunting" is based on the concept of beauty that exists only in the imagination of the individual. The artist wants us to find new value in jewellery by visually experiencing what it means to own jewellery.

According to Ogawa, our values are the most meaningful element of an individual because values form our personality. Similar to owning a car, clock, work of art or house, society views owning jewellery as an indicator of self-expression. The artist alludes to this idea in her project, "Jewelry Hunting", which captures a fleeting image of momentary jewellery. The artist’s unique sensibilities transform glowing light, diffused light, fragments of light and stark shadows into pieces of jewellery.

"Jewelry Hunting Tokyo" will be held as part of the Satellite Program “PLAY JEWELLERY“ for the Otto Künzl Exhibition at the Tokyo Metropolitan Teien Museum (TTM). The artist has removed the usual cards, displays and accompanying maps to place the focus on her original concept — to make us aware of what can be jewellery.

The photographs below are examples of jewellery "hunted" at the Tokyo Metropolitan Teien Museum. For the duration of the exhibit you may click the photographs for instructions on how to continue the light jewellery experience. You may also photograph jewellery you find to upload with hashtag #jewelryhuntingproject on instagram.com. Of course, you can also simply carry the moment home as a memory.
